The thought of Josiah Royce shaped ism emphasizes speculative aspect, which makes his and deeply influenced American philosophy. His absolute idealthought distinctive in pragmatical atmosphere of American philosophy. Dewey is a spiritual icon of American and he developed pragmatism and integrated it into American education, political reform and other areas. These two philosophers＇ thoughts are different. This paper, based on Deway＇s address of commemorating Royce on March 30, 1930, tries to expound the differences of these two philosophers＇ideas and to trace the map of academic development of American philosophy.
