摘要
本文针对罗威尔对哈佛大学本科生的通识教育改革进行深入细致的研究,并对他在哈佛大学实施的通识教育改革的背景、内容、成效以及自由选修存在的问题进行了深刻反思。罗威尔在哈佛最有名的地方就是住宿制度的建立,其是对哈佛通识教育环境的一种培育。住宿制的建立是基于罗威尔对这种生活模式的信任,即在同一个屋檐下不同经历和专业的学生可以很好地交流和学习。他肯定了群体教育的价值,认为生活教育也有潜移默化的作用。
This paper made an in-depth and meticulous research on Lowell's reform of general education for undergraduates at Harvard University, including the background, content and effect of the reform, as well as the implementation of the reform based on Lowell's profound reflections on the problems existing in the free electives at Harvard University. Meanwhile, Lowell's most foresighted measure is the establishment of the accommodation system which is in fact a cultivation of the environment for gener-al education at Harvard University. The establishment of the ac-commodation system is based on Lowell's confidence in such a lifestyle, namely, students with different experiences and majors can well communicate and learn with one another under the same roof. He affirmed the value of group education and held that life education is also of a subtle role.
