美国文学经典之作《觉醒》中女主人公爱德娜一直被奉为独立自主的女性主义先驱,但评论界在为其高唱赞歌的同时往往忽略其自杀前的负面心理状态。从自杀心理学角度分析爱德娜的死因,探索她在女性意识觉醒时所经历的困惑、焦虑及冲突等复杂心理,深入了解爱德娜的内心世界。爱德娜尚未成熟的女性心理造成歪曲的自我认知及盲目的自我建构,导致她采取极端方式结束自己的生命。她的自杀警醒女性在自身发展的同时应密切关注心理健康。

Edna, the protagonist of The Awakening written by Kate Chopin, has been regarded as the pioneer of female independence. However, her negative psychology before suicide is mostly neglected by critics. This paper aims to explore the cause of Edna＇s death from the perspective of suicidal psychology by means of exposing her complex psychology such as conflict, anxiety and crisis etc when her female consciousness was waken up to analyze her inner world further. Edna＇s underdeveloped female psychology leads to a false cognition of her self and blind-minded individuation committing suicide. Her death warns women to heed psychological problems during the process of self-fulfillment.
