The return of Crimea is an important historical event, which President Putin has made possible by conforming to the appeals of returning to Russia expressed in Crimean referendum, responding to the general wishes in Russia and drawing support from the principles of international law during Ukraine’s political crisis. The return of Crimea to Russia has not only satisfied the national sentiment and geo-political demand of Russia, but also showed Russia’s strong determination to safeguard its national interests as well as great abilities of national action and diplomacy. To face the new situation , internally, Russia has reviewed the security environment and security systems, and rendered full support to the overall construction of Crimea; externally, Russia has taken an active approach to the pressures exerted by the West and the changes in Ukraine, and strengthened cooperation with its oriental partners and emerging economies. It is against this backdrop that Russia has a mind to raise the level of Sino-Russian strategic cooperation.
