Art education, including dance education, has received unprecedented attention and support from the departments of national educational administration. However, in the community of Yugur, one of ethnic minorities with small populations, there is obvious contradiction in school education: on the one hand, children and teenagers have relatively strong demand for art education through which they hope to acquire and play out their artistic skills in singing and dancing; on the other hand, the school and community devalue and arrange the teaching of art subjects casually and irregularly. The publication of textbook Yugur Dance is not only a compilation of an indigenous textbook for the development of ethnic art and inheritance of national culture, but it also symbolizes edueational change and cultural self-consciousness of the Yugur people.
