18世纪中晚期,登嘉楼与周边区域的关系逐步复杂起来:金银花进贡造成登嘉楼和暹罗关系的误解;19世纪之后,尤其是《伯尼条约》则又导致域外力量的介入,更引发区域矛盾的激化;《曼谷条约》的签订,最终使英国殖民主义取得在登嘉楼地区的特殊权益。
