Liaodong in Scholar’s Works

纪昀纪晓岚，《四库全书》总纂官，世人称为风流才子。他的代表作《阅微草堂笔记》里头，有13篇的题材与辽东相关。简单列一下，就有《金重牛鱼》《东光霍易书先生》《乩仙多伪托古人》《戴遂堂先生》《献县胡维华》《仙自称芦中人》《唐青州刺史刘仁轨》《张桂岩自扬州还》《三座塔》《巡检署中一太湖石》《艾孝子事》《蔡芳三与诸友游西山》《旌人赴任丘催租》。

Ji Xiaolan was the chief official put in charge of compiling Si Ku Quan Shu or Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature.His representative work was Yuewei Cottage Notes,with 13 articles related to Liaodong.Case in point is Yuewei Cottage Notes:Jinzhong Baffalolish.It tells of a special local product of Shenyang,commonly known as buffalofish.The fish could be up to 500 kg in weight but its meat is tender and fresh.The fish roe is used to make caviar.Most of the fish come from the Songhuajiang River system,instead of Liaohe River system.When Shenyang(Shenjing) was the political and economic center of northeast China,the city itself was a large restaurant for the officials.And the fish was most famous in banquets.Yuewei Cottage Notes records the life of Huo Bei,governor of Fengtian.He had the Cuisheng Academy,the earliest university in Shenyang,expanded and renovated to he the highest institution of higher learning in northeast China.Mr.Dai Suitang records the family story told by Shenyang man of letter Dai Heng.His father Dai Zi developed the 28 running firearm.He planed to presented the invention to the imperial court hut was afraid the court would have his family wiped out.If he could have presented it to the court,machine gun history would have to he rewritten.
