《三四十年代上海现代市民小说价值重构》通过在现代市民价值观下的种种市民想象和都市物质文化符号的重新组合,指出了现代市民小说全新叙事方式的构建,试图从经济生活的角度突围,实现现代性的追求。该书通过对"生活政治"的阐释,进一步深入到现代市民的精神内核,揭示现代市民价值取向的转变与精神立场的转型,从而建构起二十世纪三四十年代城乡转型期中国市民的精神标本,以期昭示都市化进程中的市民意识与市民精神问题。
