The major character Ambrose in John Barth' s Lost in the Funhome appears frequently in the text and functions as the nexus that connects different stories in the collection. Ambrose' s artistic reflection and quest for artistry represents Barth' s exploration on the narrative art. This paper examines Ambrose' s artistic mind and his artistic development, analyzes Barth' s parody of Kunsflerroman and analogizes the relationship between Ambrose artistic development and Barth' s artistic creation. The purpose of the study is to further demonstrate Barth' s experiment and exploration of art by construing lost in the Funhouse as an implied Kunstlerroman. The discussion of the issue is of revealing significance for the study of Barth' s postmodern poetics.
