Objective To test the reliability and validity of scale of the self -directed learning competence for medical students ,and test the applicability of medical students .Methods With a cross-sectional survey method ,using the scale of the self -directed learning competence for medical students to evaluate 3423 medical students .Results The repeated measurement reliability of the overall scale was 0.992,the Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the overall scale was 0.944,the dimensions were 0.809 and 0.914;The split-scale relia-bility coefficient of the whole scale was 0.892,the dimensions were 0.795 and 0.883.The content validity index(CVI)for the overall scale was 0.970.The correlation analysis indicated that the structure of the scale was excellent .The result of factor analysis was also good. With the method of principle components ,6 factors were extracted on the standard that eigenvalue is overl .The result indicated that the structure of the scale was similar to the theory construction .The scale also had separating capability .Conclusion The developed scale shows excellent reliability and validity .It has a certain application value to understand the medical students'autonomous learning a-bility,and improve their own quality ,and at the same time it has enlightenment function for medical education .
