During the Late Mesozoic, because of subduction of the Pacific plate, the Jiaonan terrain was pulled apart and experienced an event of fault depressing, hence forming the Jiaolai Basin. In some low lands of the terrain were formed limited water bodies at the bottom of the basin in response to the sudden geological event, and were deposited abundant materials derived from weathering of the old strata in the surroundings, thus forming the organic matter\| and gold\|rich rock series of the first member of the Laiyang Group. At the late stage of the sudden geological event, further reworking\|mineralization resulted in the formation of different types of gold deposits in different lithologies of the ore\|bearing rock series.
