Tunnel is a path by which a data packet encapsulated in another data packet is transmitted. The two typical tunneling protocols are introduced,and tunneling mechanism and some key techniques about it are discussed. Then some applications in the fields of Virtual Private Network,Virtual Server and Transition from IPv4to IPv6 are provided.
