摘要
陈嘉庚的兴学动机非常明确 ,就是为了救国 ,“教育救国”是他的教育思想的主要组成部分 ,但与 2 0年代一般的“教育救国论”有所不同。陈嘉庚的教育救国动机 ,产生于愚昧、落后的旧中国 ,来源于海外华侨赤诚的爱国主义热情 ;凝聚了他对教育的真知灼见 ,也是他的教育实践的科学总结 ,是既符合实际又富有创见的教育思想。陈嘉庚对教育的功能和重要性进行了透彻的、系统的、具有前瞻性的论述 ,至今仍具有启迪意义。
Aiming at saving China, Tan Kah-kee made huge donations for the setting up schools. Developing education so as to save China is the main part of his educational ideas, but it is not exact the same as the theory of “saving China through education' in the 1920s. Originating in the background of an ignorant and backward China, his idea embodies the patriotic feeling of the overseas Chinese. Combining practice with creation it is the scientific summary of his insight of the nature of education and the experience in this field. His thoroughgoing, systematic and farsighted viewpoints of the function and importance of education is still an inspiration to us today.
