漂若浮萍,韧如劲草——浅析张爱玲《连环套》中霓喜的人物形象

Analysis of the Character Image of Nixi in Eileen Chang's Concatenate Traps

作为张爱玲的一部探索之作,《连环套》开掘了从姘居的角度探讨两性关系的新的题材领域。作者以深刻冷峻的笔调讲述了社会底层女子霓喜为了生存苦苦挣扎的故事。贫苦的出身、没有婚姻保障的姘居关系,让霓喜一生漂若浮萍;同时她又以母性的毅力和韧性痛苦挣扎,显示出野草般强劲的生命力。这个人物形象显示了张爱玲是以一颗悲悯的心,在观照、描述并理解旧时代女性们在生之险途中的努力挣扎和艰难求索,比某些新文学作品中把贫穷与善良简单划等号的描写方式更具有人性深度。

As an exploratory work of Eiieen Chang, Concatenate Traps has given us a new angle of the relationships between man and woman-Cohabitation. Through her frosty and deep expression, we can see how Nixi-a gift from lower class struggled for making a living. Nixi led a helpless and defenseless life because of her abject origin and the cohabita- tion without any guarantee. Meanwhile, she showed unimagined vitality through her motherhood, will and toughness. From this image, we can see Eileen Chang’s observation and representation on the women in the old days-their struggling and combating for a life. This work has much profound meaning in human nature than those new literary works which superficially regards poverty as an equivalence of kindness.
