Research methodology of the History of Chinese literary thought contains rich theoretical connotations, among which many issues are worthy of careful study. These include the complicated relationship between theoretical criticism and literary creative experience, methods of extracting literary thoughts from literature works, rational utilization of documents, ways to ensure objectivity in studying writers＇ mentality, differences between ancient and modern literary concepts and the application of modern theories of pure literature to elucidating ancient ＂jumble＂ literary thoughts. Systematic probes into such issues would be highly conducive to the development and maturation of the discipline.
