Being Congenial with Each Other: An Interpretative Analysis of the Translation of Chinese Classical Poetry from the Gestalt Perspective

格式塔心理学理论揭示出知觉经验的完形性与整体性,为我国古典诗歌翻译研究提供了新视角。作为文学艺术客体,古典诗歌是各语言成分和美感因素的有机整体,具有超越于语言信息之外的整体意蕴,即"格式塔质",但在翻译中古诗格式塔质尚未受到应有的重视。将格式塔理论与古诗翻译译例相结合进行解读,可剖析格式塔理论及其整体原则、闭合原则、异质同构原则、图形与背景原则、接近原则等对古典诗歌翻译的适用性,有利于诗歌翻译中格式塔质的传递。

The theory of Gestalt psychology reveals gestalt or holistic qualities of perceptual experience, which pro- vides a new perspective for the study of Chinese classical poetry translation. As a literary artistic object, each of Chinese classical poems is an organic integration of its linguistic elements and aesthetic factors. The whole text of each poem is enriched with holistic artistic conception or implication beyond its linguistic information, namely, ge- stalt qualities, which are usually overlooked in translating. Through combining illustrations of Gestalt theory and its organizational principles with detailed analyses of classical poetry translation examples, it can be expounded that the Gestalt theory and its relevant principles, such as principles of integration, closure, isomorphism, figure-ground segregation, proximity, are applicable to classical poetry translation, contributing to the conveyance of poems＇ ge- stalt qualities.
