This paper analyses the civilian beliefs such as wutongshen （five gods）, planchette writing, etc. covered in short stories The Punishment in This World and Planchette Writing written by Zhang Dachun, a contemporary writer in Taiwan, exploring their mass psy- chology and exploring the cultural connotation of literary works from the perspective of history and religion.
