The relevant theory of Freud is tentatively employed to interpret Winesburg, Ohio, the representative collection of short stories by American writer Sherwood Anderson. Firstly, with Personality Structure Theory, the essay makes an analysis of the deep - rooted cause to the distortion of the characters in the novel. The study shows that it is related to the suppression of id, disorientation of ego as well as the imbalance and conflict of the three parts of personality structure. Besides, the essay probes into Adderson＇s artistic psychology based on Psychology Structure Theory and points out the connection between his experience and artistic psychology.
