中美高等教育交流与中国大学新闻学教育——以沃尔特·威廉和燕京大学新闻学系为考察中心

Sino-Us Higher Education Exchanges and Journalism Education at Chinese Universities through a Retrospective Review of Walt William and the Department of Journalism at Peking University

近代中国大学新闻学教育是在中美高等教育交流日益频繁的过程中创立和发展起来的。特别是美国新闻学创始人沃尔特·威廉五次来华讲学、其扶植重建燕京大学新闻学系及其门生移植"密苏里模式",直接而有力地推动了近代中国大学新闻学专业的建设和发展,在中美高等教育交流史上树立了一个成功的范例。今天,回顾和追述这段尘封的历史,不仅可为当前我国大学新闻学专业的改革和发展提供有益的借鉴,而且对进一步促进21世纪中美高等教育的交流也不无启示。

Journalism Education at modern Chinese universities were initiated and promoted by the everincreasing higher education exchanges between China and America, and, in particular, by Dr. Walt William, the founder of journalism in America, owing to his five visits to China, his support for the re-establishment of the Department of Journalism at Peking University, and his disciples' adoption of the Missouri Model in China, thus becoming a good case in point in Sino-US higher education exchanges. A retrospection of this stretch of history is of reflective value for the reform and development of journalism as a major at Chinese universities, and for the promotion of Sino-US higher education exchanges in the twenty-first century.
