Objective To explore the association of single nucleotide polymorphism of the C/T (rsl143627) genetic locus of IL-1β gene with preeclampsia. Methods This study consisted of 200 preeclampsia patients and 300 normal pregnant women. The parameters concerned were detected and compared between the two groups in terms of the following items: BMI, blood pressure,24-hour urine protein, single nucleotide polymorphism of IL-1β-31C/T and distribution of genotype frequency. Results There was no statistical difference with regard to BMI between the two groups (P〉0.05), as for blood pressure and 24-hour urine protein levels, which were higher in the patients than the normal pregnancies (t=15.58-21.27,P〈0.01). There was no statistically difference in IL-1β-31C/T genotype distributions as well as allele frequencies between preeclampsia patients and the controls (P〉0.05). Conclusion It is likely that single nucleotide polymorphisms of IL-1β-31C/T do not significantly correlate with the development of preeclampsia.
