A Free Talk on "the End of Art"

尹吉男：首先就是我们关注几个问题，死亡论、末世论和终结论。我知道西川原来写过关于末世论的文章，一定有关于末世论的一些思考。李军写过关于艺术史的起源与终结问题，他以前还关注过死亡论问题，比如尼采的“上帝死了”，福柯的“人死了”；在美术界还有“绘画死了”。这些问题总是在脑子里转。重点是终结论。关于历史的终结，艺术的终结，也有学者谈到美术馆的终结，德里达还谈过书的终结。关于终结论的说法很多，范围很广。这些关于终结论的说法，涉及到哲学方面。刚才提到死亡论，人死了、上帝死了，这个问题就是哲学问题。

The talk first presented the topics concerned,which were 'death', 'end',and 'the end of history',or 'the end of world'.Li Jun pointed out that 'death' came from the word of Nietzsche 'God Is Dead'.,claiming that 'God' was made up. 'The Death of God' objected to the world view of Jewish Christianity.To Arthur Danto,art ended when an art work was no different from a daily object. 'The end of art' that Danto understood was actually the end of the arguments of art.Then Yin Jinan brought about the question that 'if there would be tranquility after the Last Judgment,what it would do to western thoughts?' Xi Chuan explained that there were many problems existing in Christianity in 20 th century,for instance,whether there was Hell,and those who were closest to God were expelled,leading to the effect that many outstanding figures tried to get close to God by blaspheming it.He also proposed the idea that to talk about 'end' is to talk about 'linear time',emphasizing its strong influence to the culture of those countries seeking modernization.Their response to the concept of linear time would bring out their own cultural attitude.Li Jun raised the question as to whether the present was meaningful.In his point of view,the West being the center of art,would the art of the East(including Indian and Chinese) be able to develop in the democratic art system? He held the view that the real post-modernism had not arrived yet.Yin Jinan introduced the professionalism in China as an example of Chinese denial.He also presented the case of 'the symposium effect' related to denial modes,and explained the reason for its existence.He presented a solution for contemporary art in dilemma that it'd better be combined with social science.At the end of the talk,Yin Jinan concluded this talk and raised his view on 'end',that a lot of things could not be ended,as well as the habit of thinking,which would lead to different theories of 'end' and serve as the starting points of other thinking enabling the talk to last.
