“脾瘅”证治探微

An Exploration of the Differentiation and Treatment of PIDAN (Heat Syndrome of the Spleen)

“脾瘅”始见于《素问·奇病论》。“瘅”与疾病有关的涵义有三。从王冰、张景岳等医家对本病的认识看 :其病因为“肥美之所发也” ,病机为“肥者令人内热 ,甘者令人中满” ,“口甘、中满”为其症状 ,治则为“除陈气” ,方药以兰治之。

The term “PIDAN” was mentioned for the first time in the book Exposition on the Uncommon Diseases, a section in Basic Questions (SU WEN). It has three implications according to the theories of the ancient physicians Wang Bing and Zhang Jing Yue. It is caused by the intake of fat and sweet food. Fat is apt to generate heat in the body, while sweet food is likely to cause fullness sensation in the middle-energizer. Therefore, it manifests such symptoms as sweet sensation in the mouth and fullness in the middle-energizer, which should be treated by removing stagnancy with Herba Eupatorii.
