Hainan Island,which lies in the South China Sea,is the second largest island of China with more than 1600km coastline and about 1333km2 beach soil.The exploitation of the island's beach so far has been mariculture,baysalting and tourism.Based on the survey data from Guangdong Coastal Beach Resources survey conducted before 1987,the main characteristics of the beach soil are as following.1)The soil texture is fundamentally of sand and heavy loam with physical clay making up 56.7% at most of the content.2)The organic matters generally count for 1%-2% of soil content,with the maxima being 14.6% (as to high-acid-tidal-flat soil).The ratio of C:N varies between 10-39.3) Salt possesses 0.04%~4.13% of soil content and pH varies from 2.4 to 8.3.
