The guiding principles for Shanxi’s economic and trade work in 2001: making structural adjustment as the general line, and enterprise reform as the focal point in a bid to boost the economy; scoring fresh victories in upgrading the quality and efficiency of economic performance; achieving new results in readjusting industrial structure; and making novel breakthroughs in innovating upon mechanism, technique and management. The expected objectives of this year’s provincial economic and trade work: to increase industrial added value by 8.2％; to amplify the profit tax of the provincial State holding companies by approximately 8％in order to ensure a profits increase of about 10％; to reduce the total loss of those enterprises in the red by 12％; and to raise the retail sales volume of social consumer goods by roughly 8％.
