Build－ Up Welding on Cutting Edge of Japanese Motor Vehicle Dies

The build－ up welding technology is applied to weld the cutting edges of trimming dies and also make use of the build－ up welding for worn surfaces and drawing ribs of drawing dies and forming dies in the process of making the dies for covering parts of Japanese motor vehicles. This paper explains in detail the selection of welding electrode and the build－ up welding process for build－ up welding the cutting edges. The build－ up welding technology has many advantages, such as higher accuracy of die－ making, short die－ making period, lower die－ making cost, convenient to maintenance of dies and improvement of part accuracy.
