The four-year's program of deep well hand-pump water supply project aided by United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has been implemented since 1996. An investigation on this program was carried out. It was found that the deep well hand pump is a simple and low-cost water supply technology, and welcomed by local residents in suitable areas. Based on introduction of the composition, characteristics and function of the deep well hand pump water supply project, the project's plan, construction and management are described.
