The Maoer Mountain, 2,141.5 meters above sea level, is 76 km north to Guilin, a world famous resort in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It has 10 peaks of more than 2,000 meters above sea level. On the mountain, there are more than 2,000 kinds of plants and 1,000 varieties of animals. Thirty-nine rivers, including three famous ones-the Lijiang, the Xunjiang and the Zijiang-originate in the Maoer Mountain. The mountain, with complicated geological conditions and severe weather changes, is home to many rare plants. In a seven-square-km area which is 1,700-1,900 meters above sea level Chinese Hemlock trees grow. Some of them are 400 years old.
