What Are Teacher’s Functions——An Analysis of Some Teacher Metaphors in the Chinese Language

最近,我应教育部基础教育司邀请,对四所中学的骨干教师进行培训,主题是“教师教育教学观念的更新和教师的职业发展”。由于自己在前一段有很多使用参与式方法培训教师的经历(如在甘肃省组织工作小组进行教师培训需求分析,设计培训课程,编写教材等),效果还不错,因此这次也着意采取了参与式方法。首先,我请教师们用“头脑风暴”的方式思考下列问题: 作为一名教师,我是谁?我来自哪里?我要到哪里去? 我在干什么?我起到了什么作用?我希望起到什么作用?

Many metaphors have been used in the Chinese language to describe teacher's functions in students learning. This article provides a critical analysis of a few metaphors with regard to their philosophical underpinnings and practical implications for students and teachers. The findings of this analysis reveal that metaphors are an effective way to alert teachers and other users to their hidden beliefs and daily practice in learning and teaching.
