“警察”、“公安”辨

“Police” or “Public Security”

“警察”一词比“公安”一词更准确 ,更能体现行业特点。从概念上看 ,“警察”的外延比“公安”大 ;从语用角度看 ,“警察”比“公安”更有表现力 ;从使用范围看 ,“警察”比“公安”更能与国际接轨 ;从使用年代看 ,“警察”比“公安”更有历史渊源。因此 ,宜以“警察”一词代替“公安”一词。

The term “police” is more precise than “public security” and reflects its operation features better. Conceptually,“Police” has larger extension. It is a more expressive teminology with longer history and is easier to approach the international trend. Therefore,it is appropriate to replace the term “public security” by “police”.
