Owing to the advantage of reducing investment and production cost, one-step process for manufacturing dimethyl ether from synthetic gas becomes the recently developing hot spot. In this article, the progress and economic evaluation on this process are reviewed, with the emphasis on the developing achievement of Denmark Haldor Topsoe, US Air Products and Japan NKK.
