文化激进主义是近代以来推动中国传统文化向现代转型的最主要的动力 ,并在五四时期达到一个巅峰。五四文化激进主义对传统文化权威的大胆挑战 ,表征着一种时代精神。其形成一方面是对中国传统文化中叛逆品格的继承 ;另一方面更是近代以来中国知识分子面对亡国灭种的现实日益积聚起来的焦虑情绪的必然行为结果。同时中西文化的巨大落差造成的对西方各种哲学、社会思潮的吸纳 。

Cultural radicalism has been the main impetus that has promoted the transforming of Chinese culture from traditional style to contemporary one since modern times.It reached the summit in the May 4th Movement period and embodied a kind of spirit of the times by boldly challenging the authorities of traditional culture. On the one hand,it came into being due to the inheritance of rebellion character rooted in Chinese traditional culture. On the other hand, it appeared as an inevitable result of dealing with anxious mood, which Chinese intellectuals gradually accumulated when confronting the reality of possible national doom and radical extinction at that time. In the meantime, its main source of thought came from the assimilation of all kinds of western philosophies and social ideological trend, which resulted from great discrepany between Chinese and western culture.
