In recent years, greater attention has been given to cultural and ideational aspects of international relations and diplomacy, because these aspects help disclose and explain complications of international politics and foreign policy behaviors. A survey of formation, evolution, and implementation of post war U.S. cultural relations with other nations illustrates that there has been in the United States a carefully planned cultural strategy with clear purposes and specific means that protect U.S. common political identity and interests. This strategy is seen profoundly rooted in American historical experiences, beliefs, and national myths.
