The effect of rare earth elements on thermal shock resistance of cold roller steel 9Cr2Mo was investigated by means of X ray diffraction and metallographic microscopy. The experimental results show that the process of carbide precipitation in heat affected zone is restrained by adding RE elements in steel 9Cr2Mo so that the thermal shock resistance of this steel can be increased.
