摘要
From 23 to 27 of April, a foreign press delegation paid a visit to Shanxi. The mission was composed of Beijing-based foreign journalists and correspondents from Bloomberg Business News of U.S.A., The Globe and Mail of Canada, Sydney Morning Herald of Australia, Financieel Ekonomische Tijd of Belgium, The Irish Times, Jiji Press and AKAHATA of Japan as well as of information officers from Lithuanian and Luxemburg embassies in China. During their short stay in Shanxi, these newsmen toured Mount Wutai, a famous Buddhist sanctuary; Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group, the largest producer of special steel in China; Dazhai Village, the once well-known agricultural model located in Jinzhong; and the Old City of Pingyao, a world cultural heritage. In order to have better knowledge of Shanxi, the correspondents, based on the sightseeing, had an informal meeting with leaders from the provincial Planning Commission, Economic and Trade Commission, Coal Industry Bureau, Environmental Protection Bureau, Tourism Bureau and Agricultural Department. The abundance of tourist resources, the original strategies for the fast-track economic development, the novel measures made to transform traditional industries and the new changes taking place almost on a daily basis—all these have left a good impression of Shanxi upon the journalists.
