This paper considers the kinetic and statistical properties of freeway traffic flow from the viewpoint of hydrodynamics and stochastic process.It reveals the nature of some complex phenomena in freeway traffic.Several models of freeway traffic flow are analyzed and compared.The characteristics and the scope of application of these models are also discussed.Some opinions on freeway traffic flow modeling are given in the end.
