Objective To understand the level of nitric oxide(NO)and oxygen radicals in serum and synovial fluids from patients with traumatic arthritis and investigate the role of them in traumatic arthritis. Methods: Contents of NO,superoxide dismutase (SOD) and NDA in serum and synovial fluids from 27 patients with knee traumatic arthritis and 20 healthy people were assayed. Resuults:In healthy people, contents of NO and MDA in serum were lower than those in synovial fluids (P<0. 05)but SOD content no difference (P>0. 05);In patiens with traumatic arthritis, contents of NO and MDA in serum was markedly higher than those in synovial fluids(P<0. 01)as well as SOD content was obviously lower(P<0. 05). Compare with healthy people, contents of NO and MDA were high and SOD was lowin serum from patients but no difference (P>0. 05). Conclusions:There is a higher Level of free radicals in synovial fluids from patients with traumatic arthritis and NO and oxgen radicals may play an inportant role in the developing process of traumatic arthritis.
