A Brief Introduction to the Science Citation Index of the United States

科学引文索引在图书情报界、学术界和一些管理部门中已逐渐产生了相当的影响 ,但除图书情报界而外的其他人员对其实质的认识却极少 ;为此 ,文章对其产生背景、组成部分及检索功能、期刊收录标准。

While the Science Citation Index (SCI) has been gradually received a great attention in the fields of library and information, academic research and some administrating departments, few people except the professionals in the library and information field recognized the nature of the Science Citation Index. The present paper therefore briefly introduced the background for its development, the components and its functions, journal collection standards, its applications and merits and dismerits.
