The current status of early season hybrid rice combinations widly used in rice production in Guangxi was analyzed from the aspects of grain yield, quality and pest resistance. It is considered that selection of both high quality combinations and the combinations with different characteristics such as high yield, blast resistance is the developing tendency of early hybrid rice in Guangxi. The emphasis in the tenth five year breeding program of early hybrid rice should be put on the improvement of grain quality and pest resistance and the development of market oriented combinations on the basis of the current high yielding level.
