艺术幻觉类似于生活幻觉，又不同于生活幻觉，它在客观形态和认识习惯上是虚假的、不真实的，但在审美心理上却更真实，它包括创作主体情感的真实和人物“心造”的真实，这种真实性来自于艺术创作心理，是一种不合常态的变态心理，它是原始思维在艺术创作中的形式积淀。作家和作品人物遵循“人我不分，推已及人”和“物我一体，推已及物”的原则，在审美接受活动中，幻觉性意象服从艺术传达的“可信性”和“可接受性”，具有生理心理学上的科学依据。
