《简爱》一书,呈现出主观意识与客观现实的尖锐矛盾,反映了具有觉醒意识的知识女性在挑战传统规范,追求平等和自由爱情的执着及理想无法实现的速茫。在否定不公平现实的情况下,一方面,夏绿蒂宣传妇女不应局限于家庭琐事中,应走向社会,追求与男子平等的地位;宣传打破门第悬殊,克服经济障碍,建立平等基础上的自由恋爱;另一方面,夏绿蒂笔下的理想女性简在社会中经历了艰辛后又回到家庭小圈子;而作为叛逆女性的简又终未能完全撇弃习俗的枷锁。简的这种形象透露出作家在对妇女出路摸索时的困惑,彷徨及不屈精神。

The book《jane Eyre》shows the sharp contradictions between subjective desire and objective reality,reflecting the persistence shown in the awakened female intellectuals' attempts to challenge traditional regulations,to seek for equality and freedom,to pursue love as well as their bewildment for unachievable ideals.While denying the unequal reality,Char- lotte,on one hand,calls on women not to be limited to trifles,and urges them to walk into the society and pursue the equal status of men's;She appeals people to break the wide gap in family statues,overcome the economic barrier and construct a new kind of love based on equality and respect;On the other hand,Jane,the ideal girl in Charlotte's fiction,returns to family's limit after her hard experience in society.Also,as a model of rebellious woman,Jane can never ultimately get rid of social shackles.
