Objective: To study the changes of sex hormone in postmenopausal women with cerebral infarction and the relationship between sex hormones and insulin rsistance. Methods: 33 postmenopausal women with cerebral infarction (group A) and 21 postmenopaual women without cerebral infarction (group B) were selected to compare the serum levels of estradiol (E2), follicle stimulating hormone(FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), testosterone (T), plasma glucose (G), insulin (INS) and insulin sensistivity index (ISI).Results: Analysis of variance revealed that serum levels of T, FSH, LH were significantly higher while E2 lower in group A than those in group B. Correlation analysis showed that serum E2 level was negatively correlated to INS as well as between T and ISI, and positively associated E2 and ISI, as well as between T and INS. Conclusion: The study indicates that significantly lower level of estradiol, hight level of testosterone and imbalance sex hormones and insulin resistance play an important role in the development of cerebral infarction.
