By a comparative analysis of the viewpoints on the structure of chord of fifth scale, the article thinks that comprehension of the structure of fifth scale chord through vertical and horizontal combination of fifth scale seems more rational and inclusive while the other categorizations of the structure are nothing more than various versions of chord of fifth scale in specific cuts and harmonious devices. According to the functions of chord of fifth scale in musical works, the author makes a tentative division of it into chord of color mode and chord of characteristic sound effects.
