The mean polymerization degree and relative molecular mass of chitosan oligosaccharide were determined by photometric analysis, by which the change of reductive end group before and after hydrolysis of the oligosaccharide was determined with 3,5 dinitro salicylic acid as photometric reagent. The best experiment condition was discussed in detail. The mean relative molecular mass of three chitosan oligosaccharide samples was determined by this method, the results coincided with that by VPO method.
