Talk Freely about the Saying “No Custom without Wine”──On Wine Culture Embodied into Chinese National Custom

中国是曲酒的故乡。在上古我们祖先能把固体的粮食转化为四季人们精神兴奋的液体，这是一项神奇的发明，是人们聪明睿智物化的结晶。酒极滥性这是物极必反的辩证法。其实从人类文明史的角度看问题，酒的产生是值得史书大书特书的事。在中国，酒文化是民俗文化的点睛之笔，它点出了婚俗的喜庆之情，点出了礼俗的真挚之情，点出育俗的后继有人之庆。所以说“无酒不成俗”。

China is the hometown of wine. lt is a magical invention and a crycttallization of wisdom. ln ancient times, our ancestors changed the grain into wine which could make people excited every season. Drinking too much nay make people lose their senses. It is the dialectics that things will develop in the opposite direction when they reach the limit. In fact, from the angle of the history of human civilization, the invention of wine is great. ln China, wine culture put the finishing touches to a piece of writing for folkways culture, which show happiness of marriage custom, mournfulness of sacrifice custom, sincerity of ceremony custom, and celebration for somebody to carry on the work of birth custom. So as the saying goes “no wine, no custom.”
