摘要
于２００１年６月５日正式启动的“新千年生态系统评估”（Ｍｉｌｌｅｎｉｕｍ Ｅｃｏｓｙｓｔｅｍ Ａｓｓｅｓｓｍｅｎｔ，缩写为ＭＡ）是一项利用已有的生态学知识为资源环境决策服务，从而改善生态系统管理状况的全球性国际合作计划。其主要内容是对２０００年陆地、淡水和海洋生态系统的状况进行评估，对２０３０年生态系统的变化状况进行预测，并提出改善生态系统服务功能的有效策略和途径。该计划的成功实施将具有重要的社会经济和科学意义，因此我国政府和广大学者应当积极参与。为此，建议成立国家层次的协调机构。
The Millenium Ecosystem Assessment will be launched on June 5, 2001. It is aninternational process to bring the data and new findings in ecology to bear on policyand management decisions. The objectives include assessing the conditions of theterrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems in 2000, predicting their scenarios in2030 and providing strategies and policies for making sustainable ecosystems.Recognizing its significance, actively participartion in this process and establishing aNational Coordination Unit of China has been suggested.
