From Guangdong Shi-Xue-Guan to Huangpu Marine Force School──The Marine Defense Education of Guangdong in the Late Period of Qing Dynasty

本文论述了晚清广东海防教育发生、发展的情况，认为晚清广东的海防教育虽然已开始起步，并有一定的发展，但是由于近代广东海防地位下降、多数主粤官员对海防建设以及教育事业的漠视等原因，海防教育规模甚小，质量不高，这与广东作为海防大省的战略地位很不相称。

This paper states the initiation and development of the marine defense education of Guangdong in the late period of Qing Dynasty. Although the Marine defense education started and developed in some degree in Guangdong at that time, it was on a small scale and poor in quality, the marine defense education could not match the strategic status of Guangdong as an important province of marine defense. The reasons for this situation were the falling of the marine defense status of Guangdong, and the ignorance of the marine defense construction and the course of education of the majority of the Guangdong officials.
