Comment on the Two Emperors of Han Dynasty: Yuan Emperor and Cheng Emperor(Part One)

汉元成二帝在位时期 ,正是西汉国势日衰的转折期 ,这与当时土地兼并高潮再起 ,阶级矛盾尖锐化有关 ,但更主要的是由于元帝刘表面上“柔仁好儒” ,实际上纵容宦官迫害贤臣 ,政治黑暗腐败 ;由于成帝刘骜“湛于酒色” ,宠任外戚乱政 ,才使西汉走向衰亡。但在元成二帝时期 ,对外关系 ,综合经营的田庄经济得到发展 ,说明事物是复杂的 。

The era when Emperor Yuan and Emperor Cheng were on power saw the turning point of the declining situation of West Han dynasty,which was related with the new high tide of annexation of land as well as the deterioration of class contradictions, but above everything else, it was mainly due to the fact that on the surface Emperor Yuan LIU Shi seemed to be ″gentle,benevolent and scholarly″, in reality, he tolerated the eunuches′ persecution on loyal ministers, the result of which was politically dark and corrupt.Emperor Cheng addicted to wine and concubines and trusted his exterior relatives, the combination of which caused the mal administration and doom of the West Han Dynasty. However, during that period. the foreign relations with other state and the comprehensive management of farmland economy boomed, which shows that a phenomenon could be very complex and a stable development could crop up even at the time of decline.
