The data from 'A survey of extracurricular scientific and technical activities of middle school students in Guangzhou' conducted in the first half of 1998 are analyzed in this paper, which show that there exist problems such as lack of teachers and imperfection of the appraisal system. Suggestions on how to improve the activities are offered at the end of the paper.
