The short story (A Rose for Emily) by William Faulkner tells us a life tragedy of an unso- ciable and eccentric, arrogant noble descendant in the south. In this article, the writer tries to analyse the cause of the tragedy from the angle of social psychology and then to prove the profound theme that the death of Emily, the main character, is 'the topplde monument of the aristocrat in the south'. Moreover, the writer tries to expound that the story implies a deep thinking and explosure about the tragedy of hu- man being itself as well as the shock and the enlightenment about the future of mankind.
