The types,the harm and the present status of reseach of the alkali-aggregate reactions (AAR) in concretes are reviewed here.The following aspects of the alkali-carbonate rock reactions (ACR) are reviewed especially in detail:the characteristics of the expansive reaction and their influencing factors,e.g.the alkalies and the moisture in concrete,the specific structure of the alkali-reactive carbonate rocks,dedolomitization reactions, the mechanisms of the expansive reactions,the method for the identification of the alkali reactivity of carbonate aggregates,and the preventive measures against the alkali-carbonate rock reactions.
